Chin electrolysis removes stray and coarse hairs permanently, one follicle at a time. A 30-minute session costs $65 in our Irvine studio. Most clients need 8 to 15 sessions over 9 to 18 months. It works on every hair color, including gray, and on all skin tones.

Why do chin hairs appear and keep coming back?

A few dark, wiry hairs on the chin are among the most common reasons people book electrolysis. They often show up in your late thirties or forties, and they can feel like they appear overnight. The cause is usually hormonal. Falling estrogen in perimenopause and menopause lets androgens have a stronger effect, and follicles that were quiet for decades begin to produce thick hair.

Conditions such as PCOS do the same at a younger age. If you notice a pattern of dense hair on the chin, jaw, and upper lip, read about PCOS and hirsutism, and talk with your doctor. Electrolysis handles the visible hair. A doctor handles the hormonal cause. Many clients do both.

Can electrolysis treat coarse chin hairs?

Yes, and this is where it does its best work. Coarse chin hairs sit deep and are thick, so they need a method that fully destroys the follicle. Aida Khazieva, a licensed cosmetologist and electrologist with 20+ years of experience, often uses the blend method for them. Heat and a chemical reaction work together, and a thick follicle is treated more thoroughly than with one method alone.

Lighter, finer hairs in the same area can be treated with thermolysis, which is faster. Your electrologist switches between methods during a session on our Apilus device. Details on each are on the electrolysis hub.

How many sessions do you need?

For a small area like the chin, the typical range is 8 to 15 sessions across 9 to 18 months. That is a range, not a promise. What moves the number:

Visits start weekly or every two weeks. As the area clears, we space them to three or four weeks apart. Many clients feel the difference by month three, when the daily checking in the mirror starts to fade.

What can you expect during and after a visit?

You recline, the chin is cleansed, and a new sterile probe is opened. Each hair is treated and lifted out. A 30-minute session usually covers a few hundred hairs on a busy chin, fewer on a light one. The feeling is a short pinch or warmth, milder than the upper lip for most people.

Afterward, the chin may look pink with small raised dots for a few hours. Keep your hands off, skip heavy makeup that day, and use sunscreen. Any tiny scabs drop off in a few days. Shave one or two days before each visit, and do not wax or pluck.

Questions

How much does chin electrolysis cost?

A 30-minute chin session is $65. First-time clients get $25 off, and packages save 10% on 5 visits and 15% on 10 visits.

Why do I suddenly have chin hairs?

Hormonal shifts are the usual reason. Menopause, perimenopause, PCOS, pregnancy, and some medications can wake dormant follicles. A doctor can check the cause, and electrolysis treats the hairs themselves.

How many sessions does a chin take?

Typically 8 to 15 sessions over 9 to 18 months for a small area. Coarse or hormonal hair can take longer. Results vary.

Will electrolysis work on coarse chin hairs?

Yes. Coarse, deep hairs are often treated with the blend method, which combines heat and a chemical action to handle thick follicles reliably.

Can I pluck between visits?

Please do not. Plucking removes the hair that the probe needs to find, and it can distort the follicle. Trim with small scissors or shave lightly instead.

Does it work on gray hairs on the chin?

Yes. Gray and white hairs are the ones laser misses, and electrolysis treats them like any other hair.

Will it leave marks?

Mild redness and small bumps fade within hours to a couple of days. Proper aftercare and sunscreen help keep the skin even.

Is chin treatment different from face treatment?

The chin has its own $65 session. Larger zones such as the general face area run $75, and cheeks or neck are $90 for 45 minutes.
